School Psychologists: From Surviving to Thriving

Dear Readers,

This is the title of my latest book. I hope to publish it in mid 2026.

School Psychologists: From Surviving to Thriving contains 56 vignettes geared for early-career and seasoned school psychologists and anyone interested in the field of education.

Today’s school psychologist faces a myriad of challenges: school shooters, students dealing with sexual orientation issues, bullying, serious mental health issues, and excessive technological dependence. In addition, many school psychologists have an unmanageable load, relegating them to “testers” rather than the healing and helping roles that drew them to this profession. Most school psychology programs and textbooks focus on the technical aspects of the craft, such as assessment and report writing. As a result, many students are ill-prepared for the realities of the job.

This book contains the collective wisdom of 40 school psychologists, counselors, teachers, and administrators who dedicated their lives to helping children. Vignettes cover timely issues such as integrating assistive technology into daily practice, advocating for children and the profession, serving as a resource on special education law, practicing self-care, and treating each child as unique. The stories provide encouragement, funny anecdotes, lessons learned, and a blueprint for surviving and thriving in this profession.
